This morning the FIFA Council in Kigali (Rwanda) approved the Paraguayan FA’s candidacy to host the next edition of beach soccer’s biggest show
BSWW is excited to officially announce Paraguay as the host of the coming FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2019, following the decision ratified by the FIFA Council held this morning in Kigali (Rwanda). The competition is scheduled to take place in November.
This represents an important step for beach soccer in Paraguay, and confirms the excellent work done by the Paraguayan FA in recent years. After having turned the National Team into one of the best sides in the world, Paraguay will extend their relationship with the sport organising beach soccer’s biggest event.
Paraguay had already demonstrated its organisational capacities in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup – CONMEBOL Qualifier, held last February 2017 in Asunción, in which Brazil, hosts Paraguay and Equador secured their place in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Bahamas 2017.
The CONMEBOL president, Alejandro Domínguez, was among the first to congratulate the Paraguayan FA: “I want to give my congratulations to the Asociación Paraguaya de Fútbol and the president Robert Harrison for believing in this dream and having achieved the organisation of the first ever World Cup in the history of Paraguayan football”, he said.
This will be the tenth FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup since the first was hosted in 2005 in Rio de Janeiro, after the agreement between Beach Soccer Worldwide and FIFA that made beach soccer one of the FIFA modalities.
Slot allocation also decided
The number of slots for each confederation was also decided in this last FIFA Council meeting. Europe will have five teams in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Paraguay 2019, whereas CONMEBOL will have Paraguay, as the host, plus two more. AFC will keep their three slots, just as CONCACAF and CAF will keep two. OFC will have one representative in the World Cup.
