Saudi Arabia win 4-3 against Thailand.
The first quarter-final match of this year’s competition saw Saudi Arabia progress to the AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup semi-finals for the first time by knocking out host nation Thailand in a game that ended 4-3.
Majed opened the scoring in the match, putting Saudi Arabia ahead in the vital match, however, with the opening period drawing to a close Thailand found themselves back on level terms as Nadee’s block attempt made it’s way into the Saudi Arabian net.
Suriya put the hosts ahead for the first time in the quarter-final encounter as his attempt from range sailed past the goalkeeper, putting his nation in control heading into the third period.
An incredible piece of individual brilliance from Shamhani brought Saudi Arabia back level pegging, before Al Eid restored the Saudi Arabian advantage. Thailand responded quickly as Ratthaphong levelled up the scores at 3-3 less than one minute after Thailand conceded, however, Saudi Arabia had the final say with Al Hamami’s free-kick placing his nation into the final four.
Japan win 8-3 against Lebanon.
Three-time AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup champions Japan were the second team to book their place in the semi-finals with an emphatic 8-3 victory over Lebanon.
Akaguma broke the deadlock in the game to give Japan the advantage, after converting Oba’s cross from a corner, before Oba struck in the final seconds of the first period.
Oba scored his second goal of the match at the start of the second period to double Japan’s lead with an acrobatic finish, but Lebanon hit back moments later through Merhi. Despite conceding, Japan responded expertly as Ota and Kawai both struck and Oba completed his hat-trick to bring the second period to its conclusion.
Al Saleh found the net twice for Lebanon in the final period, but Uesato and Tsuboya both netted for Japan to see out their triumph.
