Hosts and Spain take opening wins in Talent Cup

Hungary dealt a defeat to Czech visitors on day one but Spain top group on goal difference

Another year of the Talent Cup got underway yesterday as Hungary and Spain are off to winning starts.

The event sees the Under-21 squads of four of Europe’s national beach soccer teams compete in a Round Robin group, and this edition kicked off when Poland took on Christian Mendez’s La Roja.

The first half saw no goals but the game suddenly burst into life as Klopec got Poland off the mark a minute after the whistle.

Spain turned it round by the beginning of the final third to lead 3-4, and then added to their advantage taking the final score to 3-7.

Hungary also took a win, but were only able to put two past Czech Republic, courtesy of captain Rutai who scored in the first and third period to hand the hosts an early three points.

Tomorrow the victors will have the chance to extend their runs as they swap opponents.
