The so far unbeaten contenders will fight tomorrow for a berth in semi-finals
A thrilling tie confirmed WFC Zvezda’s position at the head of the table in Group C, following a win over one their main rivals, Higicontrol Melilla. In a game in which luck was not on the side of the Spaniards, who turned in two own goals, the 5-3 scoreline had the Saint Petersburg ladies firmly in control of the standings and, with 12 points out of 12, are very close to seal their place in the semi-finals of the Women’s Euro Winners Cup 2021.
Also benefitting from that result, AIS Playas de San Javier, who remain unbeaten in the competitions well, gained the best possible position to lay claim to the group title tomorrow, in a game that will decide everything.
In the fight for the head of the table in Group B, Mriya 2006 and Madrid CFF provided a terrific spectacle, and despite the defending champions ending the match with the points, their win in extra time was not enough to catch the Spaniards in the standings. Iryna Dubytska unbalanced the score of a thrilling seesaw battle that offered the best of women’s beach soccer.
After the final group stage matchday tomorrow, we will find out if both teams can progress on to the semi-finals as group leaders and best-ranked second-place finishers, or if just one will make the cut.
In Group A, in which Terrassa sit top of the standings, Marseille BT were out to restate their claim to qualification for the next round, and did so with a heavy defeat over hosts Os Nazarenos (9-3) with a stunning performance by Julie Bernard, scorer of four goals.
In the same group and with the exact same result, in this case over Belgian side New Team RCS, World Winners champions Lokrians bagged their first points in the competition, although progressing into next round is already impossible for them.
