First teams confirmed in the knockout stages on day two

Day two sees second wins seal places in the next round of the Euro Winners Cup

The reigning champions SC Braga are, so far, on track for a title-retaining campaign, as they saw off stubborn Swiss opponents to qualify for the knockout stages.

However, they are not alone as, like last year, BSC Kristall are breathing down their neck and other opponents are breezing past challengers and showing little signs of slowing in momentum.

If you missed any of today’s action, don’t worry, we’ve got your back…

EURO WINNERS CUP

Group A

Hungarian side GWP-Bodon-Cservy BSC fell behind in the opening period of play, but came back to beat Finnish team FC Baggio by four goals to three.

At the same time that that game was being played, the local Nazaré side were mounting a dramatic comeback…

ACD O Sótao fell behind by three goals in their match against BS Egmond. But with the will of the crowd behind them, they surged one and scored an equalizing goal the very moment that the klaxon sounded to signal full time.

After extra time failed to separate them, the locals fell from the penalty spot as the Dutch walk away with a point.

Group B

SC Braga faced a tough test against SC Chargers Baselland, which featured many of the stars from the Swiss national team.

Jordan Santos and Glenn Hodel scored early on to go into the first break drawing, but Braga found the net three more times as the match progressed to take their tally to six points.

SC Chargers Baselland must now win their last match to secure a place in the knock out stage. Later on, the rival’s they will face tomorrow, Linden City BSC, lost to BSC Spartak Moscow, making their match against the Swiss a must win.

SC Braga will meet the Moscovites to see who will top the group, but are both already qualified.

Group C

Sporting CP’s second match was against Belarussian representatives, MFC Spartak, but the Lisbon-based side showed them no warm welcome, putting away eight goals as they had yesterday, and defending their lines well, keeping a clean sheet.

In Group C’s other fixture, FC Delta were held to a close match against SK Augur Enemat. Eventually the Russians found an extra gear to pull ahead of their opponents in the final period, thanks to doubles from Brazilian Thanger and Zakharov.

As a result, they go level on points with Sporting, confirming their spot in the next round.

Group D

After a comfortable win yesterday, Angelo Schirinzi’s BSC Kristall had a scare in the opening period of their match against CD Nacional.

The side from Madeira took the lead once, and then twice after Kristall equalised. But following this initial wobble, the Brazilian-boosted Russians set about making up for lost time, scoring 10 to take another three points.

In the group’s other fixture, Grodnooblsport went level with CD Nacional after a normal time victory against FC Dinamo Batumi, who will now have to win tomorrow’s match to make the next round.

Group E

Catania picked up where they left off against SK Bosnia Online EU Teplice yesterday, by putting five goals past Copenhagen BSC in the first period. They wrapped the points up with a goal in each of the remaining periods to take the match to 7-0 and top the group.

Artur Music then did the Italians, and themselves of course, a huge favour by defeating SK Bosnia Online EU Teplice, meaning that both they and Catania make it to the next round.

The Danes and the Czechs will battle it out tomorrow for third place, while today’s victors vie for first place.

Group F

FC Euroformat-Bodon had breezed past their English rivals the previous day, but Grande Motte Pyramide BS proved harder to break down, keeping pace with the Ukrainians and eventually clinching a point from the penalty spot.

This result was good news for the other two Group F members, as a precious two points have been lost.

One of them, Eastleigh Spitfires, had lost yesterday and a win today could open the group right up. But KP Lodz were clinical in taking their chances, sinking the English side by 11 goals to two.

Group G

Boca Gdansk started the day at the top of Group G, but Casa Benfica Loures were out to change that and moved above their Polish rivals, winning the match by seven goals to two.

Casa Benfica are now just a win away from securing a place in the next round. Desperate to retain hope of doing the same, CD Bala Azul and Atlas AO were in need of points.

It was Spanish national team player, Chiky who, playing alongside his two brothers David and Raul, netted the winner late in the final period, taking Bala Azul level on points with Boca Gdansk.

Group H

Rostocker Robben did well to hold off the firepower of Levante for the second section of their match, but an early brace from Edu Suarez, and then an unlucky own goal by Korner, proved the difference between the sides.

Alanya Belediyespor did their Spanish groupmates a favour by seeing off Belgian side Cartel Waterloo, confirming both theirs and Levante’s place in the next round of the competition.

Waterloo will now play Rostocker Robben to see who will finish the group in third place.

Group I

Neither Yesil Ercis Belediye Spor Kulübu nor CS Djoker had picked up points on day one, losing dramatically by the tightest of margins. The Turkish side lead for the majority of the match by a single goal, but in the third period they upped their game.

Three late goals wrapped up the points with a 6-3 win, whilst BSC Vybor had a fright, after leading CF La Nucía for most of the game, when a late three-minute hat-trick from Dani Haro threatened to deny the Ukrainians late points.

But they found a winner half way through the final period to take the match 4-3, and top the group on four points.

EURO WINNERS CHALLENGE GROUPS

Group J

Alfarim were yet to taste defeat in ahead of their match against Costa de Caparica, but they continued their winning ways, administering a 6-1 defeat to Portuguese Euro Winners Challenge rivals.

CF Chelas had just managed to clinch the final place in Group J, but their first match would be a real test as they faced BSC Lokomotiv, who were averaging around 10 goals a game so far.

The Railway men powered through the Portuguese challengers, netting six to out the game to bed, the three points in the bag.

Group K

GD Sesimbra had enjoyed a perfect run through the group stages of the Euro Winners Challenge to get this far, and that run was extended as they put four past Kefallinia to take three point and top their new group.

AD Buarcos, had less luck against a strong CSKA Moscow side, who took a 5-2 win to equal Sesimbra on points.

The Russians face Kefallinia tomorrow, while Buarcos will meet their countrymen Sesimbra.
