The popular coach will be succeeded by Sebastian Ullrich and Oliver Romrig after five years at the helm.
Long-serving Germany coach Nils Böringschulte has announced he is to leave his role with the national team after five years of service.
Böringschulte – who assumed the role in 2012 – announced his decision to step back from the role on Wednesday, citing personal commitments.
A thoroughly popular individual within the world of beach soccer due to his commitment to sportsmanship and fair play, Böringschulte will be succeeded by current Germany players Sebastian Ullrich and Oliver Romrig.
The pair will take charge jointly ahead of a busy European season – with Germany also confirmed to feature in the Sal Beach Soccer Cup from May 19th to 21st – although skipper Romrig will continue to play as well.
Böringschulte highlighted Germany’s promotion to Group A in the Euro Beach Soccer League 2012 as a result of their success in the Berlin leg of the competition as one of the highlights of his tenure, while also taking pride from his side’s gutsy display in their last-gasp 5-4 defeat to Italy in Jesolo, which cruely denied them a spot at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in the Bahamas.
“My goal has always been, that if I do something then I would like to achieve maximum success with all my effort, but that is currently no longer possible,” Böringschulte explained in a statement.
“I have to pursue my profession in order to secure my livelihood and my family is absolutely not for discussion, therefore I have unfortunately had to stand back from beach soccer.
“Therefore, I put down with immediate effect my position as trainer. The DFB has tried to compromise with me within the context of its current possibilities, but we could not reach a final conclusion. So I have had to make this difficult decision.
“Beach soccer is just the coolest sport and I’m glad to have been part of it for so many years.
“Of course, I will continue to closely monitor the National Team and the German Beach Soccer League and keep close contact with those involved. I am also very glad that my two successors come from my own ranks and I am so sure that the route we have successfully begun will be carried on.
“I wish my longtime companion Sebastian ‘Ulle’ Ullrich and Oliver ‘Olli’ Romrig a lot of fun and success with the team and only the best for the coming season!
“Many thanks to the entire Germany beach soccer team, the Bol & Greuel therapy centre, the DFB, Beach Soccer Worldwide and all those who have been together with me for the last few years on and off the pitch!
“Beach soccer is not just a sport, it’s a passion!!! #iambeachsoccer.”
