Semifinals Argentina-Brazil and Paraguay-Ecuador will decide on Saturday the first teams to earn World Cup ticket
The group stage of the Eliminatorias CONMEBOL al Mundial de Fútbol Playa de la FIFA – Asunción 2017 ended today, leaving Paraguay and Brazil on top of Groups A and B, respectively.
A solid win over 2013 champions Argentina had the hosts prevailing in their group. The Guaraní used timely attacks and sound defense, with two goals by Pedro Morán, and one by Juan López, Carballo and Ojeda, to bend the Albiceleste, who never found the formula to wound their opponent’s defensive line efficiently enough.
Brazil, in turn, left even less room for speculation, as they mercilessly run past Ecuador to secure the head of the table. La Tri managed to stand up against the Brazilian menace for one period, but as soon as the verdeamarela’s machinery start performing at full power, there was little the Ecuadoriasn could do.
One after the other, golas fell on the Brazilian side, confirming that they will battle Argentina on Saturday for a place in the final and, consequently, their ninth participation in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.
Ecuador, as the runner-up in group B, will take on hosts Paraguay, targeting to ruin the fiesta in Asunción and earn their first ever FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup license.
In the other games of the day, Perú and Uruguay grasped narrow wins that have them finishing this group stage in the third place of their respective pools, and will now fight for the 5th position in the competition, already with no World Cup chances.
