Group A
Italy win 1-0 against Ukraine.
Hosts Italy looked to build on their opening victory, as they faced Ukraine who looked to bounce back from their narrow defeat to Portugal.
The opening goal of the match in the first period would be the match winner as Naticchioni’s acrobatic strike, with less than five minutes remaining in the period, found its way into the bottom left corner to secure victory for the hosts.
A second victory for the Italians, as Ukraine suffered yet another defeat in Alghero.
Group B
Spain win 6-3 against Switzerland.
The Swiss side took the lead in the encounter as Nauer struck with 22 seconds left in the first period. However, Spain struck back through Manau to level up the scoring before the break.
Spain found themselves leading heading into the last 12 minutes as Jessi and Sara Tui fired home, before Corbacho scored with little time remaining in the period. Switzerland found one goal of their own in the period as Bucher’s finish meant the teams were separated by two with one period to play.
Jesi and Manau both secured their braces in the third period to give Spain some breathing space, as Inderwildi pulled back a late consolation for Switzerland.
England win 4-3 against Poland, after extra-time.
England had an extremely bright start as Elouath netted with Sara Catriona doubling the advantage. Bednarska brought Poland firmly back into fixture with less than one minute left in the first period, to make the score 2-1.
The teams were back on level terms for some minutes in the second period as Bednarska bagged her second of the match, but Elouath also found her second of the match to restore the England lead.
Bedarska granted Poland once again in the third period as she found the back of the opposition net to earn her hat-trick and took the match to extra-time.
The match was won in the three-minute additional period as Sara Catriona became the third player in the match find the net twice as England won their first match of the competition and took two points.
