Vasco da Gama win both Carioca Championships!

A win over 2019 champions Flamengo give the Men's side their sixth title, while the Women's team bent Boavista to claim silverware

Vasco da Gama are the undisputed rulers of the Rio de Janeiro beach soccer sands, as the team confirmed yesterday, claiming the Carioca Beach Soccer Championship in both Men’s and Women’s Divisions.

Lead by an amazing Dani Barbosa, top scorer of the competition, the Women’s team edged Boavista in the final, held at the iconic Copacabana, and snatched the first Campeonato Carioca Feminino.

In the men’s competition, defending champions Vasco da Gama and 2019 champions Flamengo squared off again in the final of the championship, just as they did in the last edition, in 2020. And the game ended exactly in the same fashion: with the Trem Bala da Areia lifting the title.

This time, though, the score was even tighter, with the game going to the penalty kick shootout after a thrilling 5-5 in the regular time, with Bokinha (2), Joseph, Mauricinho and Rafinha scoring for the Vascainos.
