USA end emphatically
USA win 9-0 against Bahamas.
USA and Bahamas kicked off the final day of women’s action in the El Salvador Beach Soccer Cup 2024, as a USA victory would put them top of the table ahead of the later fixture between El Salvador and England.
Sunseri-Warp fired the Americans ahead with less than four minutes to play in the opening period in Costa del Sol, as their lead was doubled through Chronopoulos in the final moments of the first 12 minutes.
The remainder of goals came in the second period of the match as USA struck seven times without a response from Bahamas. Witteman secured her brace, as Adler, Hall, Quigley, Haimes and Phillips all hit the target.
With the final whistle blowing at the end of the third period, USA put themselves in poll position on six points.
El Salvador triumph on penalties
El Salvador defeat England 3-1 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the match.
After a goalless opening period, it was Evans that would break the deadlock for England on the Salvadoran sands in the second period, but the hosts struck back through Maravilla to equalise ahead of the third period.
El Salvador took the lead for the first time in the fixture inside the opening four minutes in the third period as Cordero hit home, but Barron’s long-range effort rippled the back of net for the Lionesses to take the match to extra-time.
With both nations failing to score during the additional three minutes, celebrations began from the USA players as they knew they had mathematically done enough to win the El Salvador Beach Soccer Cup 2024.
To the delight of the home crowd, it was El Salvador who came out on top in the penalty shoot-out winning 3-1 from the spot.
Individual awards
During the awards ceremony in Costa del Sol, three individual awards were given out to the women’s players. The ‘Best goalkeeper’ award was given to Salvadoran goalkeeper, Yahaira Maravilla, the ‘MVP’ award was handed to USA player, Alexandria Hall and the ‘Top scorer’ award was won by USA’s, Samantha Witteman.
