Uruguay national championship: Matchday 2 round-up

Racing played their first match on Playa Pocitos as Rampla and Parque Cubano suffer second defeat

Matchday 2 of the Uruguayan national championships was spread over three separate days, and the first saw Racing join the fray in one of the two games in Group A on Tuesday 9 February.

Racing got off to a winning start in the sixth edition of the Uruguayan National Beach Soccer League, after a tight extra time win over Parque on Playa Pocitos, Montevideo.

After losing to the defending champions Malvin in their first match, Rampla Juniors also suffered a second defeat against Danubio, this time a painful loss from the penalty line.

As a result, Danubio move one point above Malvin in the Group A standings to sit in the top spot, while the Group B matches were played on Wednesday 10 February, featuring Boston River beating Parque del Plata 4-2, and Progreso also taking three points against Wanderers, winning by six goals to three.

The final games of Matchday 2 were those of Group C, played on Thursday, where Cerrito narrowly beat Keguay 5-6, and the other match finished Fénix 5(2)-(3)5 Albion after a tense penalty shootout. As a result, Keguay qualified for the Apertura Tournament of the Uruguayan Beach Soccer Championship 2021

Matchday 3 kicks off on Friday, where Racing will be in action again, this time against Rampla Juniors.

The best two teams in each group will progress to the Torneo Apertura, while the remaining teams will fight for two more berths at the Copa Competencia, which follows the regular stage.
