St. Petersburg hosts large-scale beach soccer youth tournament

It was the eighth edition of the St. Petersburg Youth Beach Soccer Championship

The current world champions are clearly putting in the necessary commitment to grassroots beach soccer to establish themselves at the very pinnacle of the sport.

The St. Petersburg Youth Beach Soccer Championship is among the world’s largest beach soccer youth tournaments, and the event lasted for two and a half months at the all-weather facilities for beach sports at the Voskhozhdenie and Dynamite sports complexes.

Both the Euro Winners Cup and Mundialito de Clubes champions, Kristall and Lokomotiv, had youth team representation at the event.

The competitions covered no less than eight age categories, including children born from 2012 to 2004.

At the same time, the tournaments in the three older age groups were divided into two leagues, known as the First League and the Major League.

This year, an incredible 1,783 players, split across 108 teams, took part in the tournament.

In total, 404 matches took place and 3,943 goals were scored. On average, 9.76 goals were scored per game.
