The nations’ respective women’s teams will go head to head in Puerto Vallarta this month.
The women’s teams from Spain and Mexico will contest the Visit Puerto Vallarta Cup later this month alongside the men’s competition on the country’s western coast.
As the women’s game continues to grow within beach soccer, hosts Mexico will take on their Spanish opponents on Friday 20th October and again a day later, with a penalty shootout to take place, if necessary, to decide the overall victors.
Spain remain one of the best women’s teams in Europe – having lifted the inaugural Euro Beach Soccer Cup in 2016 before finishing fifth at the event this year – while also boasting a healthy domestic setup.
Coached by men’s national team boss Joaquin Alonso, the Spaniards will look to upset the hosts, who themselves will be eager to make the most of home advantage in Puerto Vallarta.
While the female side of the game in Mexico remains in a stage of development, the country as a whole is a true beach soccer heartland and Maribel Dominguez’s ladies will be eager to showcase that in their displays this month.
