Senegal and Egypt bag opening points in Mozambique

Day 2 of the Beach Soccer AFCON saw defending champions and Pharaohs win the first Group B matches

The second matchday at the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations saw the action kick off in Group B, with wins for the defending champions Senegal, and the Casablanca Beach Soccer Cup winners, Egypt.

Senegal made short work of Angelo Schirinzi’s Uganda, putting 10 goals past the Sand Cranes in their first match. Seydina Diagne starred for the Lions of Teranga, netting four for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup semi-finalists.

The 2021 Rising Star, Roaul Mendy scored two as well, but Uganda were well beaten, only managing a late consolation from Baker Lukooya to take the final score to 10-1.

Egypt, however, had a much more difficult time clinching victory, and managed just one point against Madagascar following a tightly-fought match and dramatic penalties.

The Pharaohs thought they had clinched the normal time victory, building a 4-2 advantage not long before the final whistle, but a valiant comeback from Madagascar saw them force Egypt to the penalty spot.

It was there that the champions of the Casablanca Beach Soccer Cup finally downed their rivals, but Egypt drop two essential points ahead of their match against Senegal on Sunday.

RESULTS (22/10)

Senegal 10-1 Uganda
Madagascar 4(3)-(4)4 Egypt
