Cusco (BSWW vice president) and Mammadov (AFFA Gral. Secretary) meet in FIFA Congress to start penciling Euro Olympics
Joan Cusco, FIFA Beach Soccer Committee member and BSWW vice president, and Elkhan Mammadov, General Secretary of the Azerbaijan Footbal Association, met this morning in the framework of the FIFA Congress taking place in Mauritius.
The focus of this preliminary meeting was to start dealing with several issues regarding the role of Beach Soccer in the European Olympic Games, to be held in Baku (Azerbaijan) between 12th and28th of June, 2015.
Cusco and Mammadov dealt with issues such as the number of teams, the competition format, the possibility of having a Qualifying round to earn a place in the event, etc. This first meeting is to be followed for many others during the next months, when the Beach Soccer competition in Baku 2015 will be given a concise shape.
It is worth remembering that the Azeri Football Association has always been very supportive to Beach Soccer, with some key chapters in the relationship with the sport, such as the Euro Beach Soccer Cup held precisely in Baku in 2008.
So, after the official announcement after the meeting of the European Olympic Committees, held last 30th of April, the first movements are already being done in order to make Beach Soccer one of the biggest attractions of the first edition of the European Olympic Games.
