The hosts beat England in the second game of the Women exhibition tournament in Espinho and will take on Switzerland for the cup
The Women National Sides of Portugal and England brought on a great spectacle today at the Espinho beach stadium, with the hosts taking the final win and securing their chances to aim for the cup tomorrow against Switzerland.
The game became a delicious entertainer right from the very beginning. Portugal managed to step ahead in the score thanks to their captain, Rita Martins, and that had the hosts commanding the game all through the first frame. In the opening of the second leg, Portugal added a second to go up 2-0. England immediately pulled one back, with Kempson’s 2-1, but the hosts hit again to restore the advantage. The period would end 3-1.
Last stage was an all-or-nothing for both sides. Portugal knew it and kept targeting England’s nets. Andreia Norton added another goal for the Lusitanians, making it even more difficult for the Northeast-coached side, who could score their second goal later on, only to see Portugal reply with the 5-2.
