A win against Uruguay Montevideo on the last matchday confirmed the Aurinegros' title
Club Atlético Peñarol emerged as the winners of the Uruguayan Campeonato Apertura, thanks to a comfortable win over Uruguay Montevideo (6-0) in the last matchday of the competition, held at Playa Pocitos, in the nation’s capital, Montevideo, and organized by AUF (Uruguay Football Association).
The victory by the Carboneros left rivals Malvín, who were hot on their heels in the ranking, out of the running for the title, despite their win in the last game against Danubio (5-4).
That match saw La Celeste international, Gastón Laduche, sealed his claim to the competition’s top scorer trophy with 11 goals.
Following the Apertura, the teams will now head into the Campeonato Clausura, with the winners of both competitions battling next week to discern who will be the 2022 Uruguayan national beach soccer champions.
