The rossoneri grab Serie A Enel title in their return to the competition, after edging Supercoppa champions Terracina in final
Milan has now won four Serie A Enal championships in the last eight years, leaps and bounds ahead of the next best teams. This season, the rossoneri were forced to overcome a very tough Terracina who has a dynasty of their own as they were on a high after recently winning the Italian Supercopa over Viareggio and having won the last two Serie A titles. Viareggio had their best showing every in the league final as they placed third.
The first period was extremely exciting but neither side was rewarded with any goals. There were many chances from both teams, but spectacular saves and unlucky shots ricocheting off the side and cross bars meant the first period ended with a score of 0-0. Not only were two great teams fighting but also amazing individuals, including Amarelle, of Spain, and Borer, of Switzerland, who will be competing this weekend in the EBSL Superfinal in Torredembarra.
The scoring broke open in the middle of the second period when Terracina made a brilliant goal off of a throw in, that led to a penalty and the first goal. Milan would not be down for long as they came right back and scored to tie the game at one, after a Terracina penalty. Milan could not enjoy the goal for long as they were scored on again by a perfect shot by Palmacci, off of a corner kick.
The third period saw the same back and forth battle continue as each squad continued to make impossible shots and saves. The individual battles heated up in the final period as Borer for Terracina and Amarelle for Milan exchanged goals. In a game with excellent offensive moves, a defensive stop is what decided the game, Olleja of Terracina lost the ball on Milans´side and Rafael used deft moves to secure the title for Milan.
Despite the title and accolades earned by Milan, there was an even better prize for the winning team, a cruise. This was the first year that a partner of Serie A offered something like this but in the expanding Beach Soccer market it was only a matter of time before before a successful team was given a cruise on the Mediterranean. It will not occur this weekend as both Italian powerhouses have players competing in the EBSL Superfinal in Torredembarra.
