Polands´top Beach Soccer league saw the favourite go undefeated and win 5th overall title
Poland saw their nations best team, Grembach, go undefeated through the three day tournament and earn the championship for the 4th straight year. Grembach had also come in 6th place during the Euro Winners Cup this year meaning not much drama was expected during this tournament, but the final provided enough thrill for two years in the defeat of Hemako Sztutowo 4-3.
Grembach defeated 4 of their rivals in the first days, and arrived on Sunday expecting an easy win. The win came, but not easily. The first period saw a frustrated Hemako side unable to score, in part due to the stingy Grembach defense. In fact, both sides played tight and conservative defense to keep the game close. The first two periods saw two goals scored and both by Grembach. The second period ended with a score of 2-0.
The final period was a roller coaster for both sides but started it started off spectacular for Hemako as they scored two quick goals to tie the game. This seemed to inspire Grembach as less than a minute later they broke the tie to go up 3-2. Shortly after that, Ziober of Grembach, took a monstrous shot from his side of the field and put his team up 4-2.
The game looked to be a blowout but with three minutes left a player from Grembach committed a hand ball penalty very near his own goal. This gave Hemako some hope, but the penalty was saved by Marciniak, seemingly ending any chance for a comeback. But just after the blocked penalty the referee blew his whistle and ordered a re-kick because of early moment from Marciniak. The second chance would not be saved and Hemako had pulled within 4-3. Both sides had chances to score in the final minutes but the score remained the same and Grembach held on to win 4-3.
The final for Grembach last year was a much easier battle, but easy or not, this win gave the Polish side, littered with Polish National team players, their 4th straight title. After such an exciting game, it is obvious that the rivals of Grembach have more than a sliver of chance to dethrone the champions, in fact Hemako knows that they do.
