Penalties were needed to crown a champion in Czech Republics´ top Beach Soccer league
In a hard-fought weekend the BS Bohemians 1905 won every way possible, defense, offense, blowout, and nail-biter, so it was appropriate that they won the championship in the most exciting way possible; penalty kicks. The Bohemians defeated rival BS Landronka Praha in the shootout by the score of 4-4 (3-2).
The opening period was a back-and-forth tactical match that saw two goals scored in the first minutes, one from each side, and then the goals took a back seat until the final minute in the first frame when both teams scored again to keep the game level at 2-all. The second period was a see-saw battle as well, seeing both teams score, but Landronka scored twice in the period, putting them up 4-3 going into that last period.
Early in the third, Bocek of the Bohemians scored to tie the game at 4. The remainder of the period was filled with flurries of shots and near-misses until the period ended. No goals were scored in the overtime, though plenty could have been scored, and the game went to a shootout, the most emotionally intense way to end a match. In the shootout, BS Bohemians 1905 overcame some early match penalty shot misses to win 4-4 (3-2).
At the end of the tournament there was the award ceremony, rewarding the best players of the tournament for their excellent play throughout the weekend. There was no surprise the top goal scorer, MVP, and best goalkeeper all came from the two teams in the final. The most goals were scored by Martin Long, who netted 23 on his way to the top goal scorer award. Longs´ teammate on BS Landronka, Jakub Tosovsky, was given the MVP award. The best goalkeeper was Peter Visek from the champions BS Bohemians 1905.
The EBSL Superfinal and Promotion final Torredembarra 2013 will be held from the 8th-11th of August so there will not be much rest as both Czech teams have players on the National team that will be competing. The Czech Republic is currently in Division B and if they can secure the title in Torredebarra they will be playing in the EBSL Division A next season.
