Group A
Local side, ACD O Sótão get off the mark
Pitch 2 was rocking as the fans came out in their numbers to witness ACD O Sótão play ACS West Deva.
The local team led the match 3-2 by the end of a closely contested first period, as Benjamim Jr, Chiky Ardil, and Codinha scored. Both teams got a goal each in the second period, as ACS West Deva needed one goal in the last period to take the game to an extra three minutes.
Benjamim Jr ensured that there wasn’t any late drama, scoring twice in the last period to secure the victory and his hat-trick.
Pafos FC remain top after scoring 10
It was a huge win for Pafos FC against Naxos BS as they got their win in Group A, to keep themselves at the top of the tree.
The match remained fairly low scoring in the first period, with the teams going in at one a piece going into the second period, with goals coming from Naxos BS player, Palmacci and Pafos’ Edson Hulk. It was pure domination from the team from Cyprus, finding five goals, as Edson Hulk netted another two, with no response from the Italians.
The Cyprus team then made it to double digits in the last period, as Hulk scored his fourth and fifth goals of the match to take him into second place in the top scorers list, with eight goals. Palmacci also scored again for Naxos BS for his second of the match.
Group B
SC Braga break this year’s goal scoring record
It was a tremendous display from the Group B leaders and Portuguese side, SC Braga as they broke the Euro Winners Cup 2023 record for most goals scored in a match, putting 13 past Telavi BSC.
The score was 4-0 after the first period as Lourenço, Pintado, Thanger and Jordan all found the net. Leo Martins came flying out the blocks in the second period, firing in a rapid-fire hat-trick, which was accompanied by strikes of Jordan and Pintado.
To top it off, the Euro Winners Cup 2022 finalists continued their demolishment with four more goals in the last 12 minutes, as Pintado completed his hat-trick with a stylish finish, with the Portugal natives conceding just one along the way from Giorgi.
Bohemians 1905 continue their winning ways
After Braga put in one of the best performances we’d seen this tournament a few hours earlier, it was vital for Bohemians 1905 to secure the three points to remain within touching distance of the group leaders, as they took on Nomme Olybet.
The first 12 minutes of play produced no goalscoring action, but in the second period the team from Czechia stepped it up a gear, scoring four times, with goals from Vyhnal, Pekarek , and Trampota with two.
The Estonian side did get to celebrate once in the third period however, as Remmelgas finished his chance.
Group C
BSC Artur Music relentless, as they hit double digits
BSC Artur Music and Ta’ Xbiex SC kick-started the action at the Estádio do Viveiro – Jordan Santos for the opening Group C match of Day 2 in the Men’s Euro Winners Cup.
After a win on the first day of the competition, the Ukranian side were eager to get six points on the board, and they fired in the open in the first period, as Victor Hugo shifted the ball onto his right foot and whipped his shot into the bottom corner.
Drastically struggled to keep up with the high intensity of BSC Artur Music and after the second period found themselves 6-1 down. Victor Hugo got his name on the scoresheet again, as fellow team-mate Potapov scored two, as well as goals from Lukas and Zborovskyi. Dalli gave his team a glimmer of hope with 44 second left of the second period with 12 huge minutes ahead.
Zborovskyi was on fire in the third, striking three times in the period for his fourth of the competition, as Voitenko finished the for the team from Ukraine.
Varzim SC score eight again
Varzim SC entertained CD Marbella in Group C on Day 2, as they took the points with a large margin of victory once again.
Trievelas and Fabio scored the opening goals with three minutes remaining in the opening period. The Portuguese team then scored another three in the second period, as Tim scored his first of the match.
Five goals came in the last 12 minutes, with three going to Varzim SC and the first two of the match for CD Marbella. Tim completed his hat-trick scoring two of the three goals for his team in the third period.
Group D
Six points from six for Riga FC
Riga FC continued their winning ways in Group D as they came out victors against French opposition, Marseille BT.
Two minutes from time in the first period, Santos Dias fired the French city ahead an acrobatic left-footed overhead kick, but Riga FC fought back and acquired a goal of their own from Hohluks just before the periods conclusion.
The Latvian side took the lead for the first time, as Hohluks got his brace for the day. However, Quaziz made the team level pegging once again to set up an exciting and dramatic finish to the battle of the top two sides of Group D.
Both sides would’ve been disappointed to not have been leading sooner due to the amount of chances they had, but it was the Latvians who captured the three points at the end, with Fred being the hero.
Group E
Rostocker Robben show grit and determination to overcome BSC VIT
It was a second win in a row for Rostocker Robben as they registered another victory in Nazaré.
The score board read 3-1 to the side native to Ukraine after the first period had come to a close, as Poslavskyi Raphael and Ryan struck, with a goal for Rostocker Robben from Körner.
This was followed by a second period Damm goal for the Germans, as they only trailed by a goal heading in to the final stage of the match.
Rostocker Robben then fired in four goals past the Ukranians, with Damm completing his hat-trick and only conceded two, as they accomplished a superb comeback, winning 6-5.
Lenergy Pisa BS keep up the pressure on Rostocker Robben
For the second and final match of Day 2 in Group E, Lenergy Pisa BS took on GRAP in Nazaré.
Barsotti scored the only goal of the opening period, as things really began to get underway in the second phase. Diogo scored for GRAP from kick-off, but the Italians demonstrated superiority over their opponents, scoring three goals coming from Cami, Di Palma and Ste Marinai.
They Italian side managed to hold off their opponents to see out the result in the last period, adding another two goals through Vaglini and Gean Pietro for additional safety.
Group F
Six points for Levante
Both Levante UD and New Team BS Brussels obtained wins under the belts on matchday 1 in Group F, as both sides looked for their second victory.
Pedrinho put the Group F leaders ahead in the opening period, for his second goal of the competition which would be the only goal scored between the teams in the first 12 minutes.
Kuman was on target once again for Spanish side in the second period, hitting the back of the net twice in five minutes.
La Grange salvaged a goal back for the Belgian side, but its two wins on the bounce for the Spaniards.
CD Nacional secure first three points
After a loss to Levante on Day 1, CD Nacional put their wrongs right as they won against BSC Husty by four goals to one.
No goals were scored in the first period, but in the second period Cabral and Anderson fired home for the Portuguese side to lead 2-0 after 24 minutes.
CD Nacional doubled their advantage in the third period through Andre and Cabral scoring his second. Kort put one in the net early on in the period, but only proved to be a conciliation.
Group G
A last minute winner for Recreativo Huelva
A fixture between Real Münster and Recreativo Huelva began proceedings in Group G for matchday two, both coming off the back of Day 1 victories.
Dani Haro made the scored the only goal in the first period to make the score 1-0 to the Spanish outfit. The side then trebled their lead in the second period through Gerlan and Fernando, before the German side pulled back two goals courtesy of Metzler and Edu both scoring in consecutive matches.
Japanese international, Oba found the leveler, but with a minute of time left to play fixture Gerlan netted for the team from Spain to move up to the top of Group G.
Grande Motte PBS score eight in Group G victory
Grande Motte PBS got their first win of the Euro Winners Cup as they defeated BSC Nistru 8-2 in Nazaré. The Belgian side led by the match 3-1 after the first period with goals coming from Belhomme with two, and a goal from Joselito, and Podlesnov getting one for BSC Nistru.
Huck scored a brace as the leaders found another four goals in the second period, as Barbotti found the net and Joselito found his second of the day. Ceh managed to find the net with just over 90 seconds to go.
Velezmoro scored the eighth in a comfortable win after their disappointing result on the first day.
Group H
Ali bags hat-trick in Napoli Patron BSC victory
Napoli Patron BSC won their second Euro Winners Cup 2023 encounter, this time against Isle of Wight BS, to have attained the maximum amount of points available, in Group H.
Skourtas and Jose dragged the Greek team from behind in the first period after an early opener from Alexandre. They then extended their slender lead in the second period, as Ali scored three to increase his tally from the previous day, along with a strike from Stavropoulos and a second of the day from Skourtas.
The final period belonged to the Isle of Wight as Caymen and Charlie got their names on the scoresheet, yet the match was already well out of the British side’s reach.
Hat-trick hero Hodel
In Group H, matchday 1 victors, Falfala KQ BSC came up against Bulgarian team, MFC Spartak.
It was a close contest between the two teams in the first period as both sides poached twice, as Hodel racked up his first of the day.
Falfala KQ BSC dominated the second period, scoring another three goals to create space between themselves and their Group H opponents, Hodel scoring again, in between a Dmais brace.
The final goals of the match came in the third period as the goals were shared, scoring one each, courtesy of Maci for the Bulgaria-based squad and Hodel with his third to kick-start his pursuit of the top scorer award.
Group I
ATLAS A.O. beat Viareggio BS in extra-time
Group I produced an extremely exciting fixture on Pitch 2 at the Euro Winners Cup 2023. Alisson scored once in the first period to lead for Viareggio BS against the leaders of their group.
ATLAS A.O. turned the match around in the second period to lead the game 3-2 by the end of it, as top goal scorer, Bokinha found the back of the net twice to take his tally to eight goals.
Former beach soccer ‘Best Player’, Ozu Moreira netted for the Italian side, but also put the ball in his own net. However, Fazzini put his side back on level terms straight from kick-off, as we headed for an extra three minutes.
ATLAS A.O. fired in two quick goals in extra-time and their opponents did reply, but only with one from Carpita. An amazing spectacle for the fans in Nazaré.
AS Etaples bounce back in the group stage
After losing 7-1 on the opening day, French side, AS Etaples showed great resilience as they managed to win their second group stage fixture against Alanya BS.
AS Etaples were in control early on as Baillieux, Ramet and Lefebvre had their side three goals up in five minutes. Silveira initiated the attempted resurgence of Alanya in the second period, as he found the back of the net twice, as well as a goal for Barbosa. Despite this, the French outfit did score one of their own in the period to keep the Turkish team at bay.
Lefebvre allowed his team-mates to take a sigh of relief in the final minutes of the match after almost potentially squandering a 3-0 lead, as he scored again.
