After a long decade Catania regained the Italian league title on home sand to clinch domestic double
The Fratelli Beretta Beach Arena in Catania would be the backdrop of the final of the 2018 Aon Serie. The Italian club league crown had eluded DomusBet Catania for ten years, but perhaps their recent win in the final of the Aon Coppa Italia gave them that extra little boost of confidence to make this year special.
Over 1,000 eager fans watched as the hosts took on an old nemesis, Happy Car Sambenedettese, who hadn’t got this far in the competition to go down without a fight…
But hat-tricks from super Stankovic and Corosiniti, the match rarely slipped out of control for the hosts, who ended each interval with a one goal lead which eventually accumulated to a 7-4 victory.
Fabio Costa’s side were presented with the trophy by the Coordinator of the Beach Soccer Department LND, Roberto Desini.
Gabriele Gori (Viareggio) claimed the prize for the league’s Top Scorer with 29 goals (his fourth Serie A), and Emmanuele Zurlo not only took the award for the league’s Best Player, but also finished not far behind Gori as second Top Scorer, with an impressive 27 goals.
Rafael took home the trophy for 2018’s Best Goalkeeper of the season, whilst the captain of Happy Car Sambenedettese, Franco Palma, received recognition for an exemplary season with the Fair Play award.
It seems that the beach soccer gods are with Catania this year, as 2018 has seen them secure the fifteenth edition of the Serie Aon, their first since 2008, as well as their first Aon Coppa Italia in 13 years. Not a bad double, eh?
Complimenti a DomusBet Catania!
