Four teams remaining in Portuguese club title race

Saturday’s action saw Sporting CP, SC Braga, Casa do Benfica de Loures and Nacional CD secure passage to final in Nazaré

The last regular phase games of the Portuguese Elite Division took place last Saturday (11th August) and four of Portugal’s beach soccer giants stood firm to secure their spots in the race for the Elite League title.

Sporting CP, SC Braga, Casa do Benfica de Loures and Nacional CD ended the day with places in the final stage confirmed.

Casa Benfica just managed to muscle the vital points from Vitória FC with a 3-2 victory, whilst Varzim SC edged Leixões SC by the same score. Nacional were taken to penalties by GR Amigos Paz after a nail-biting contest finished at six goals apiece after extra time, where they secured passage to the final round with a 9-8 penalty shootout victory.

Despite an early Ozu goal for Braga, Sporting ended their rivals’ unbeaten run, at the same time maintaining their own, with a 7-5 comeback triumph. But it wasn’t all doom and gloom for SC Braga, as they had already done enough in the regular phase to make it through to the final four.

Sporting end the regular phase having not dropped a point and scoring a grand total of 48 goals!

The title will be decided between the 24th and 26th of August in Nazaré. Also traveling to Nazaré will be GR Amigos Paz, Leixões SC, Vitória FC and Varzim SC.

Despite being knocked out of the running for the title, these four teams will be tussling to avoid the drop to the National Division from the Elite, and remaining battling alongside the best.
