Spain beat USA in Women’s Beach Soccer show
The Acapulco Beach Soccer Cup 2024 is underway with two big stories on Matchday 1. BSWW’s Ranking leaders Spain started the tournament on the right foot with a hard-fought win over defending champions USA, while Costa Rica wrote a new page in history with their first ever international match, and with a resounding win.
Spain had the better start with Andrea Mirón giving La Roja a one goal lead in the first period, while Sara Tui would double it already on the second period. But in the last three minutes of the second period, Oray and Adler equalised, less than thirty seconds apart, to restore the excitement to a thrilling encounter. Sidi Omar’s team made good use of the break and Carol Glez put Spain ahead only 15 seconds into the third period, and Sara Tui sealed the 4-2 win.
Costa Rica couldn’t have asked for a better start to their first ever international match, against hosts Mexico, with a goal from kick-off by Solis. Hernandez would make it 2-0 before the first break and in the second period Las Ticas practically killed the match with another three goals by Arias, Lopez and Prieto. Hernandez would score her second in the third period and Cerdas closed the result of 7-0 for Costa Rica.
