Chargers Baselland’s men and women dominate Swiss League

There were wins in the Suzuki Swiss Beach Soccer League finals for both teams of the Basel based BSC Chargers Baselland

This weekend saw the Suzuki Swiss Beach Soccer League come to a final climax as defending champions were dethroned, with some of the world’s biggest beach soccer stars did what they do best…

In the men’s final BSC Chargers Baselland found themselves in the middle of a goal frenzy and the game reached an impressive 20 goal total.

Fortunately for the Basel side, they enjoyed the winning split of this figure, claiming 11 goals, while their opponents, Grasshopper Club Zurich, only managed nine.

Ott opened the scoring for Grasshopper Club Zurich with an early strike only to see it cancelled out two minutes later by Borer. Ott went on to complete his hat-trick before the first whistle but BSC Chargers Baselland were keeping pace and the first whistle blew with the score at 3-3.

In the second period, the other Swiss national team stars started joining Ott on the scoresheet, as Jaggy and Hodel put BSC Chargers Baselland three ahead, and the score sat at 6-3. The goals kept on coming, but the Zurich club remained at least two behind their rivals.

Even a late Stankovic hat-trick wasn’t enough to catch the clinical BSC Chargers Baselland, who were crowned 2018 league champions.

The Chargers burst straight into action and wasted no time in asserting their aggression. It took less than a minute for Vinzenz to open the scoring and put the Basel side ahead.

An equaliser eventually came when Genovesi found the back of the net early in the second period. But Molly Clark restored the advantage and then a third for BSC Chargers Baselland in the closing stages put them very much in charge with only minutes remaining.

Genovesi completed her brace to pull a last minute goal back but The Chargers could not be contained and with their victory earned more than just the league title, as they will also compete in the Euro Winners Cup 2019.
