Rostocker score six to take German league title

Rostocker Robben saw off Kevin Hagemann’s BSC Ibbenburen in an action packed final

It was the fourth consecutive year that these two sides had met in the final. The reigning champions, Rostocker Robben, had the chance to make it three titles in four years.

BSC Ibbenburen looked like they were ready to repeat the success of their 2016 league campaign when Christian Biermann opened the scoring after three minutes. But there was an immediate response from Rostocker, equalising through Tom Rönsch in the same minute.

The game remained reasonably tight for the opening stages, but Biermann was kept at bay by a strong Rostocker Robben defence, and was unable to find the net a second time.

Meanwhile, the defending title holders were moving into another gear and the gap began to widen between the teams as goals continued to ripple the Ibbenburen net until eventually a last minute Tim Kautermann strike sealed a 3-6 victory for Sven Korner’s side.

It will be Rostocker Robben who will represent Germany again in the 2019 Euro Winners Cup.
