The men’s and women’s league finals took place this weekend as BS Egmond and BS Zeeland reign supreme in the Netherlands
The previous week the Netherlands had enjoyed the National Beach Soccer Championships for its youth teams. There was a huge amount of young talent on show, but it’s likely that the youngsters would swap sand for stands this weekend, to watch how the senior teams won titles…
There was a lot resting on the Netherlands National Championships, as not only did a win mean a first place finish and a well-deserved feeling of pride, but also a place at the European championships, the Euro Winners Cup.
BS Egmond clinched the men’s title and, in the end, it was a decisive and comfortable win in the final of the Dutch league for Bas Kampman’s men, who saw off their opponents, BSU/VP AFBOUW by putting ten goals past them to be crowned champions.
In the play-off for third place, the men’s BS Zeeland team defeated BS Rotterdam by four goals to two.
The women managed to go even further for club BS Zeeland, as they fought a closer final than the men’s had been, to claim the title in the women’s league.
BS Zeeland just edged DTS Ede 4-3 to secure the top spot as well as that all-important place in the Euro Winners Cup.
Sharona Tielerman picked up the MVP award while Isa Pothof took the Top Goalscorer trophy after scoring no less than 27 goals!
Congratulations to both teams, and we look forward to seeing them show what they can do on the European stage.
