Brazil and Uruguay take second wins in CONMEBOL Championship

The hosts beat Ecuador in their second group game at Barra de Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro

Brazil and Uruguay took second wins on Day 2 of the CONMEBOL Championship in Rio to go top of the two groups with six points.

Both teams will enjoy a rest day on Friday, meaning that Paraguay and Argentina will have the chance to draw level.

La Albiceleste won comfortably on Day 2 against Bolivia, after being beaten in the opener by their Uruguayan neighbours. They will equal them on six points in Group B though, if they beat Colombia tomorrow.

La Celeste beat Chile narrowly in their first game of the CONMEBOL Championship, while in Group A Brazil won 7-3, thanks to four goals from Edson Hulk, who has six goals in just two games – seven if you count an own goal – so far.

Narea snatched two points for Venezuela against Peru, handing La Blanquirroja a second defeat in just two days.

Bolivia and Peru are now in real need of wins in their games against Chile and Paraguay tomorrow. Venezuela face Ecuador and Argentina will meet Colombia.

Three of the ten teams will make it to the world championships in Russia. The CONMEBOL Beach Soccer Championship – acting at the Qualifier for the World Cup –is being held from from 26 June to 4 July at Barra de Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
