Beach Soccer Worldwide Reaffirms Commitment to African Beach Soccer at ABSU AGM

Strategic engagement with ABSU highlights BSWW’s vision for structured growth and continental competition in Africa

Beach Soccer Worldwide (BSWW) reinforced its long-term commitment to the development of beach soccer in Africa by actively supporting the African Beach Soccer Union’s (ABSU) strategic vision at its 2026 Annual General Meeting.

The AGM brought together continental stakeholders, partners, and institutional representatives to outline a clear pathway for structured competitions, governance, and sustainable growth across African beach soccer. BSWW’s presence and engagement underlined its role as a key driver of global development for the sport, working alongside regional bodies to unlock new opportunities for players, clubs, and national associations.

Speaking at the event, Josep Ponset, Director of Events, Beach Soccer Worldwide (BSWW), emphasised the importance of formalised competitions and long-term planning for the game.

“Africa is ready for structured beach soccer competitions, and our partnership with ABSU will provide a pathway for clubs and players to gain continental recognition while raising the profile of the sport globally.”

The statement reflects BSWW’s wider development philosophy: empowering the game through technical expertise, competition frameworks, and international integration, while ensuring regional identity and ownership remain central.

Mahmud Hadejia, President of the African Beach Soccer Union (ABSU), welcomed BSWW’s continued engagement, noting that it reflects growing confidence in Africa’s readiness for structured growth.

“The active participation of Beach Soccer Worldwide at our AGM reinforces ABSU’s vision to build a credible, well-governed, and truly continental beach soccer ecosystem. Africa has the talent, the passion, and the reach; what we are now putting in place is the structure that allows clubs, players, and nations to grow sustainably.”

As ABSU continues to position itself as a unifying body for the sport across the continent, the 2026 AGM reflects the strengthening of its governance structures, improving coordination between national associations, and building credible competition platforms that align with global standards. BSWW’s support of ABSU’s vision reinforces confidence in Africa’s readiness to expand beyond isolated events and towards a coherent continental ecosystem.

The AGM also highlighted the role of the private sector in supporting sustainable growth. Tropical General Investments (TGI), a leading private-sector brand operating across Africa, attended the meeting as a prospective partner, expressing interest in collaborating with ABSU to support competitions, development initiatives, and commercial activation.

This alignment between BSWW, ABSU, and private-sector stakeholders reflects a viable and sustainable approach to sports development, one that balances sporting ambition with economic opportunities. With BSWW’s strategic backing, ABSU’s continental leadership, and growing interest from private partners such as TGI, African beach soccer is entering a new phase defined by structure, opportunity, and global connectivity.

The 2026 AGM marked a significant step forward, signalling not only Africa’s readiness for growth, but BSWW’s continued commitment to ensuring that growth is meaningful, inclusive, and aligned with the global evolution of beach soccer.
