Australia opens Asian Cup in emphatic fashion

A victory (7-2) over Vietnam gets the Beach Socceroos on top of Group B in Haiyang

Australia came into this Asian Beach Cup with the right foot, with a convincing victory over Vietnam that gets them on top of group B after this first matchday in Haiyang. Two goals by Bakis and two more by debutant Da Silva got things perfectly steered for the Aussie, leaving Vietnam no option to these first points at stake.

Surprisingly enough, Vietnam hit first, and the last 4th place finishers in the last Asian Qualifier for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup were not able to react until the second period. A 3-0 run in that stage, though, changed things drastically, getting Andrioli?s lads in command.

A wonderful volley by Atkins gave the third leg a brilliant opening, right one minute before Bakis sealed his double with the 5-1. Phuc shyly replied for the Vietnamese, but along came Da Silva, in his first ever International game with Australia, to definitely secure the victory with two stunning goals that made for a wonderful debut for him and his team.

Goals: 0-1: Phuoc, min. 4 (1); 1-1: Crevani, min. 11 (2); 2-1: Bakis, min. 3 (2); 3-1: Matricciani, min. 0 (2); 4-1: Atkins, min. 8 (3); 5-1: Bakis, min. 8 (3); 5-2: Phuc, min. 7 (3); 6-2: Da Silva, min. 3 (3); 7-2: Da Silva, min. 0 (3);
