The Spanish National Beach Soccer League drew to a close at the weekend in Cadiz.
AIS Playa San Javier and Melistar CD are the new Spanish champions after winning their respective National Beach Soccer League tournaments in Cadiz at the weekend.
The event, held at Playa de la Victoria across Friday, Saturday and Sunday, attracted Spain’s best players to both the men’s and women’s events, with the latter ending first on Sunday evening with San Javier meeting Platja Roses.
San Javier, who hail form Murcia, ran out 4-2 winners against their Catalan opponents before Melistar took on Levante UD SAD.
Melistar proved too strong, claiming the title after a 5-3 win, with both winning teams receiving their awards from the President of the National Beach Soccer Committee, Diego Martinez.
“I’m very happy to earn a second national title,” said Laura Gallego Silvente of San Javier. “It’s pleasing to perform as we did – the final was a struggle at times but we deserved the victory.”
Francisco Jose Cintas of Melistar added: “A final is always a difficult game to play, especially when you are losing 1-0, but with confidence and our own style of play, we managed to win.”
