Movers of the Month: Brazil

The world champions are back on top of the world rankings after success in Nassau.

Recently crowned FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup champions Brazil leapfrog former holders Portugal to the top of the world rankings after lifting the trophy in The Bahamas last month.

Gilberto Costa’s side proved a cut above in Nassau as they beat the likes of Brazil, Italy and Tahiti to get their hands on the famous trophy for a fifth time and maintain their winning run, which stretches back more than a year.

Brazil’s first world title since 2009 moves them up two places to first in a much-changed top six after all but one of the world’s top 13 competed in The Bahamas.

While former champions Portugal slip to second place, Iran climb two spots into third ahead of Russia while FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup runners-up Tahiti are back into the top five following their run to the final.

Switzerland remain in seventh, eight-place Paraguay swap places with Japan, who now sit ninth, while UAE end May in the top 10, having narrowly missed out on a place in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup quarter-finals.

Following on from the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in The Bahamas was the Sal Beach Soccer Cup in Cape Verde as the hosts took on Portugal, England and Germany in Santa Maria.

Champions Portugal claimed the title for a second year running with three wins from three while runners-up England and third-place Germany jumped by six and two places respectively.

Cape Verde are up seven places to 66th as they finished fourth despite some impressive displays against more seasoned opponents.
