Semi-finals decided in the Euro Winners Cup 2016 – Women’s competition
Weidt heroics send Berlin through to semis
BeachKick Ladies Berlin clinched a place in the semi-finals of the Euro Winners Cup after seeing off Portsmouth Ladies 4-3 with the help of a Weidt hat-trick in a thrilling contest.
Portsmouth made a perfect start when Clark followed in on a saved effort to prod home but, despite Pompey pressing and Meyer striking the bar, Gabriel drew BeachKick level.
A rare error from Quinn in the Portsmouth goal saw Weidt’s free-kick trickle in to give Berlin the lead but skipper Kempson dragged Pompey back level with a penalty. Schultze had her revenge by thwarting another spot-kick from the captain soon after.
Kehrli denied Hillier with a magnificent save down low while Gabriel went close as both sides sought a winner.
The winning goal looked to have come via Quinn, who made amends for her earlier slip-up by finding the top corner from her own half, only for Weidt to strike twice in a few late seconds to break Pompey hearts.
There was further drama when Schultze saved Clark’s late penalty inside the final minute as Berlin hung on to earn a place in the semis, leaving their visitors dejected.
Goals: 1-0: Clark, min. 10 (1); 1-1: Gabriel, min. 7 (1); 1-2: Weidt, min. 1 (1); 2-2: Kempson, min. 7 (2); 3-2: Quinn, min. 3 (3); 3-3: Weidt, min. 1 (3); 3-4: Weidt, min. 1 (3);
Zvedza storm past DTS onto semi-finals
Russian champions WFC Zvedza made things rather clear in their quarter-finals clash against Dutch DTS Ede… Just for everyone’s notice, the Russian side shouted loud that they want to go all the way in this Euro Winners Cup, dreaming with being the champions in this first ever Women’s edition of the competition.
A loud win was the best way the Russian side found to send that message out. There was little DTS could do against such a talent demonstration. Goals kept falling on the same end, with the Dutch side only managing to do very little harm.

Catanzaro comes from behind to make it into the last 4
Catanzaro proved their breed and determination as they clinched an amazing victory after coming from 3-1 behind in the last period of their game against Sogesport. The Italian side earned their berth in the semi-finals of the Euro Winners Cup in a rather heroic fashion, never losing the faith in their possibilities and their beach soccer.
Everything seemed to be under control for Sogesport after building a 2-0 advantage in the opening minutes of the match. And they seemed pretty comfortable as well when replying to Catania’s 2-1 with a new hit. But the final reaction by the Transalpine caught them by surprise and proved unable to counteract the 0-4 run by their opponents in the last frame.
Goals: 1-0: Roco, min. 11 (1); 2-0: Soto, min. 8 (1); 2-1: Barbara, min. 8 (2); 3-1: Roco, min. 1 (2); 3-2: Marino, min 10 (3); 3-3: Marino, min. 4 (3); 3-4: Barbara, min.0 (3); 3-5: Conte, min. 0 (3).
Breath-taking battle sees Grasshopper through
The game between Catania Beach Soccer and Grasshoppers will be remembered for long, and will for sure become a very special memory of this opening Euro Winners Cup. With seventeen goals scored, most of which real pieces of art, both sides showed just a bit of what Women’s beach soccer can offer. Just one goal, in the last seconds of the game, made the difference, sending Grasshoppers through.
According to the way the match began, it seemed that there would not be much competition. Four goals in the first six minutes of the game had the Alpine side cruising comfortably. But little by little, Catania cut the distance, and grew on the sand to start a fierce pursuit which ended up with the 8-8 equaliser, with just one minute to go. Just six seconds before the hooter, Stucki made it possible for Grasshopeers, bagging a winner than Catania would not have time to counteract.
Goals:0-1: Shutz, min. 11 (1); 0-2: Marozsán, min. 9 (1); 0-3: Eastman, min. 6 (1); 0-4: Stucki, min. 5 (1); 1-4: Veronica, min. 3 (1); 2-4: Antonella, min. 9 (2); 2-5: Radulovic, min. 7 (2); 3-5: Pamela, min. 7 (2); 4-5: Pamela, min. 4 (2); 5-5: Antonella, min. 1 (2); 5-6: Partzsch, min. 1 (2); 5-7: Stucki, min. 0 (2); 6-7: Veronica, min. 4 (3); 6-8: Marozsán, min. 3 (3); 7-8: Veronica, min. 3 (3); 8-8: Pamela, min. 1 (3); 8-9: Stucki, min. 0 (3).
Play-off for 9th place
Battling Zwolle edge Daleszye to set up Terracina clash
HTC Zwolle earned a first Euro Winners Cup win in the first of the ninth-placed play-off games, recovering from 4-2 down to win 5-4 against Sparta Dalesyzce.
Zwolle’s Van Belsen showed strong form in the group stage and continued that in the quest for ninth, opening the scoring early on.
However, Lipa’s tame effort bobbled in front of goal to deceive Martijn and bring Sparta level before Bednarska completed the reversal from close range.
Krzysztofik and Bednarska added further goals for Sparta either side of a Dekker strike while De Laat registered the first goal of the final period.
The defender missed a golden opportunity to level soon after but Ten Brinke equalised from a free-kick prior to Roeles’ winner inside the final stages of an entertaining contest.
Zwolle will now face Terracina to battle for a ninth-place finish.
Goals: 1-0: Van Velsen, min. 10 (1); 1-1: Lipa, min. 11 (2); 1-2: Bednarska, min. 10 (2); 1-3: Krzysztofik: min. 8 (2); 2-3: Dekker, min. 7 (2); 2-4: Bednarska, min. 3 (2); 3-4: De Laat, min. 8 (3); 4-4: Ten Brinke, min. 2 (3); 5-4: Roeles, min. 1 (3);
Terracina brush past Kalju to earn ninth-place showdown
ASD Lady Terracina swept aside Nomme Kalju 4-1 to ensure a meeting with HTC Zwolle for ninth place at the Euro Winners Cup.
Terracina, having lost out on a place in the quarter-finals by virtue of goal difference, started strongly but were made to wait until late in the first period for a breakthrough from Pisa.
Kalju saw a number of free-kicks come and go in their attempts to level but Maiorca’s set-piece showed the way while Uleksin eventually got the Estonian side on the board prior to Pisa’s second before the final period.
Grossi extended the advantage and capped the scoring with a fine acrobatic effort from inside the area to make certain of a shot at ninth place after the disappointment of bowing out in the groups.
They will face HTC Zwolle on Saturday while Kalju will take on Sparta Daleszyce in the 11th-place play-off.
Goals: 1-0: Pisa, min. 3 (1); 2-0: Maiorca, min 3 (2); 2-1: Uleksin, min. 1 (2); 3-1: Pisa, min. 0 (2); 4-1: Grossi, min. 4 (3);
