Brazil finish as runners-up as Japan impress on debut


The USA secured their second Acapulco Beach Soccer Cup title in three editions with a commanding performance on the final day, overcoming Japan to lift the trophy. Brazil sealed second place with a dominant win over Mexico, while Japan’s debut campaign ended on a high note despite falling short in the final.

USA power past Japan to seal the title in style

A tightly contested opening period saw both sides create chances but fail to convert, as the match remained goalless heading into the first break.

Japan broke the deadlock midway through the second period, with Nishio rising bravely to head home and give her side the lead. The USA responded quickly through Martinez, who finished off a well-worked team move to level the score. An unfortunate own goal then handed the USA a 2–1 advantage heading into the final period.

In the third period, Martinez struck again with a stunning overhead effort from her goalkeeper’s throw to extend the lead, before Triplet added a brilliant header to make it 4–1. The USA held firm to secure the victory and be crowned champions once again.

The game saw a balanced opening period with both sides creating chances but fail to find the breakthrough, as the match remained goalless heading into the first break.

Brazil took control in the second period, with Valéria opening the scoring before Mayara added a second to give her side a comfortable advantage, while Mexico continued to search for their first goal.

In the final period, Taii took charge with a superb hat-trick to seal a dominant 5–0 victory, confirming Brazil’s second-place finish in the women’s competition.

Individual awards
During the awards ceremony in Acapulco, three individual awards were presented to the top performers from the women’s competition. The ‘Best goalkeeper’ award was given to Gabriella Batmani (USA), while the ‘MVP’ award was claimed by Samantha Martinez (USA). The ‘Top scorer’ award was shared by Hannah Adler (USA) and Samantha Martinez (USA).
