Portugal secure second place as USA and Mexico complete standings


Paraguay made a statement on their first appearance at the Acapulco Beach Soccer Cup, delivering a dominant performance to claim the men’s title. Portugal secured second place with a convincing victory over Mexico, as the final day brought a strong close to an action-packed tournament in Acapulco.

Paraguay storm to title victory in dominant fashion

Paraguay took control early in the first period, with goalkeeper Rolón scoring a stunning long-range strike into the top corner to open the scoring. Barrios added a second late in the period with a fine finish, giving Paraguay a solid 2–0 lead heading into the break.

The second period saw Paraguay completely dominate, as Carballo struck early to extend the lead before Martínez added a fourth. Cantero and Barrios continued the onslaught, while Carballo’s second of the game capped a sensational spell to leave Paraguay in a commanding 7–0 position.

Paraguay maintained their intensity in the final period, with Medina converting a spot kick and Gómez finishing with an acrobatic effort to seal an emphatic 9–0 victory and secure the men’s title in style.

Portugal made a strong start as Bé Martins opened the scoring early in the first period to give his side the advantage.

Mexico responded in the second period through Ramón to level the contest, but Portugal quickly regained control as Lourenço restored the lead. The Portuguese side then pulled away with further goals from Leo Martins, Lourenço—completing his brace—and Algarvio to take a commanding 5–1 lead into the final period.

In the third period, César Cruz pulled one back for Mexico, but Portugal continued their dominance as Lourenço completed his hat-trick and Bernardo added another to seal an emphatic 8–2 victory, securing second place in the men’s competition.

Individual awards
During the awards ceremony in Acapulco, three individual awards were presented to the top performers from the men’s competition. The ‘Best goalkeeper’ award was given to Yoao Rolón (Paraguay), while the ‘MVP’ award was won by Mathias Martínez (Paraguay). The ‘Top scorer’ award was claimed by Thiago Barrios (Paraguay).
