UAE host Switzerland in three friendly matches

The Nati won two of the three games held in Dubai

Angelo Schirinzi’s squad flew to Dubai to play against the UAE in three friendly matches between 15 and 17 April.

Day 1 saw the Swiss come out on top in a 13-goal thriller, winning 7-6 thanks to a hat-trick from one of the world’s top three players, Philipp Borer.

Another hat-trick, this time form the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup’s top scorer, Glenn Hodel, saw Switzerland take all three points on Day 2 as well, winning by seven goals to four.

However, the third day saw the Emirati hosts, who sit 11 places below their European visitors in the official world ranking, win the final match by four goals to one.

Strikes from keeper Humaid Jamal, Rashed Eid and a double from Waleed Beshir, were enough to seal the victory on the last day of friendlies.

As well as the results, it was a special trip for Swiss goalkeeper Nils Hodel, younger brother of Glenn Hodel, who was selected by head coach Angelo Schirinzi to make his debut with the Nati.
