“The Intercontinental Beach Soccer Cup is like an intense World Cup”

Ozu, captain and talisman of Japan, has no doubt that his team has what it takes to be crowned the champions in Dubai

DUBAI (UAE), 30 October 2021 – Japan captain Ozu Moreira, one of the best players in the world, is already looking forward to the coming Tecnotree Intercontinental Beach Soccer Cup Dubai 2021, taking place at Kite Beach between 2 and 6 November.

The Samurai dynamo, who has been nominated for the Best Player of the Year Award (to be announced at the Beach Soccer Stars gala in Dubai on the 6 November) feels proud that he and his team have the chance to take part in what he considers a unique competition: “The Intercontinental Cup is like an intense World Cup, with top-class teams squaring off in a shorter period”, he states.

The Japanese squad will get to Dubai after their stunning performance in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, held this summer in Russia, in which they made it all the way to the final. There, Russia (who were again drawn into their group in Dubai) denied them the world crown.

But with their key players, and some other youngsters set to become very important players in a near future, the Samurai Blue think they have what it takes to become champions in Dubai. Their faithful and colourful crowd, always one of the most eye-catching in the stands of the stadium, will for sure offer great support in their campaign.

This will be the fourth time Japan compete on Emirati sand, an experience Ozu and his teammates are really looking forward to. The combination of the highest-level competition and the unique background, makes this week even more special: “It is great to be back in Dubai. The city is very beautiful and the atmosphere you feel here is special. We are glad to be back in the city, and to take part in the event again”, Ozu added.
