Switzerland are in charge after day one of the Morocco Beach Soccer Cup in Casablanca thanks to a 6-3 victory over England, with second-place Morocco also picking up an narrow 2-1 win against the Netherlands.
Switzerland made an ideal start in their opener as Nicola Werder and Angelo Wuest gave Angelo Schrinzi’s side a 2-0 first-period lead, before Terry Bowes reduced the arrears thirty seconds after the restart.
While Scott Lawson and Tom O’Neill provided fleeting resistance for England in the second and third periods respectively, Werder and Wuest would go on to complete their braces before Sandro Denz also weighed in with two himself to give the Swiss the points.
Things proved tighter in the second match as goals from Yassir Abada and Lody Dijkhuizen kept Morocco and the Netherlands level going into the last three minutes of the contest.
However, Iazal Sami settled the score late on to send the home crowds happy after an exciting opening day of competition.
