Only Morocco stand in the way of Switzerland’s Morocco Beach Soccer Cup chances.
Switzerland and Morocco will go head to head in Casablanca on Sunday for the Morocco Beach Soccer Cup title despite contrasting results on day two.
Leaders Switzerland are very much in pole position as they followed up their 6-3 win against England with a 9-2 victory over the Netherlands.
Nicola Werder, Angelo Wuest and Sandro Denz – all of whom grabbed two on Friday – were on target again against the Dutch while Tobias Steinemann scored four, with Yuri Steffen and Angelo Schirinzi also on the scoresheet.
Jeron Barnas and Marc Timmer got the Netherlands’ goals in the second and third period respectively before Switzerland’s rivals for the title, Morocco, were beaten in extra time by England.
After Tom O’Neill and Jake Younie gave England a 2-0 lead at the first interval, Meeah El Mehdi, Bilal Essaadi and Nassim El Hadoaoui responded in the second frame, only for Cameron O’Rourke to level and send the game to extra time.
From there, Terry Bowes grabbed the winner with 17 seconds remaining to keep England in the hunt for second while Morocco are left needing a normal-time win tomorrow if they are to deny Switzerland the crown.
