Swiss competitions set for grand finale

The country’s domestic league and cup competitions will be played out this weekend.

The Suzuki Swiss Beach Soccer League draws to a close this weekend in Spiez, with the men’s and women’s cup competitions also due to be held on Friday.

One of Europe’s most consistent and long-standing domestic competitions, the league runs from late May until the middle of August, taking in a host of towns and cities across the country.

In Spiez this weekend, Friday will see BSC Havana Shots Aargau look to defend the cup when they meet BSC Chargers Baselland in the women’s final before the Chargers’ male counterparts look to reclaim their cup title when they face Havana Shots.

Once the cup finals are complete, Saturday will see the final matches of the league played, with defending champions Chargers leading the way in the men’s division while women’s holders Havana Shots will seek to reel in current leaders Grasshopper Club Zurich and defend their title.

The domestic league will wrap up on Saturday evening but the beach soccer continues throughout the weekend in Spiez, with Switzerland taking on France in an international friendly.

While France’s European campaign for the season is over, Switzerland are in Euro Beach Soccer League action in Warnemunde next weekend as they seek to secure a place at the Superfinal in September.
