The hosts beat Thailand in the final to claim the silverware at Wollogong Beach after stunning performance by Drilic
Australia claimed the silverware yesterday on home soil, beating Thailand in the Australian Beach Soccer Cup final.
The Beach Socceroos were strong throughout the weekend and finished off the tournament in Wollongong with a dominating 3-1 victory. The goals by star forward David Zdrilic, Brendan Gan and Peter Crevani ensured the host nation didn’t disappoint a healthy crowd on North Beach.
Australia, who had been offering amusing performances during the whole 2013 and fell just one goal short of accessing the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2013 in Tahiti offered a new brilliant display. With a well-organized style of play, and the ability to cause harm at the exact moment, the Aussies seemed to have Thailand under control during most of the game.
The Beach Socceroos had beaten China in their first game on Friday to access the decider against the Thai. A stunning performance by target man Zdrilic, with 4 goals, got the hosts equalizing a game which had turned quite complicated, and the Australian number 9 himself knocked the Chinese during the additional three minutes with two more hits for the 7-5.
