Belarus, Denmark, Portugal, and Spain secure victories

Group A
Belarus win 9-3 against Switzerland.
The Group A match between Switzerland and Belarus that kicked off Group phase II matches with goals from both sides early in the game. Steinemann and Hodel were on target for the Swiss, while Bokach, Hardzetski, and Avgustov’s brace gave Belarus a 4-2 lead in the first period.


Bryshchet’s goal for Belarus made Switzerland’s effort less effective, as they trailed behind going into the final period.

The third and final period saw Piatrouski, Novikau, Kanstantsinau, and Hapon all found the net for Belarus, increasing their goals to secure a convincing 9-3 victory. Steinemann’s last-minute goal for the Swiss proved a mere consolation.

Denmark win 3-2 against Italy, after extra-time.
In the second Group A match between Denmark and Italy, the first period ended with the Italian side leading 2-1, courtesy of goals from Remedi and Bertacca, including an own goal in favour of the Denmark team.

The second period was goalless for both teams, and the Italian side cruised into the third period with a 2-1 goal advantage.

In the final period, both teams went hard on attack and defence but Denmark got the goal that levelled the game 2-2 with a strike from Damm. The match was dragged into extra time, which eventually produced the win for Denmark, to earn two points from the game.

Group B
Portugal win 6-1 against Poland.

Matches in Group B kicked off with Portugal and Poland face off, Jordan’s strike early in the first period produced a 1-0 lead for the Portuguese side.

The second period was even more eventful for the Portugal, as they increased their goal tally to four. Pintado, Coimbra, and Brilhante were all on target to make the scoreline 4-0, leaving Poland struggling to find a goal yet in the game.

Portugal’s Jordan got his brace goal in the third period, and an own goal in their favour sealed the win at 6-1. The last-minute goal by Poland’s Brochocki provided some consolation.

Spain win 3-1 on penalties against France, after a 3-3 draw in the match.
In the last match of the day, France and host Spain got off to what eventually became a keenly contested Group B encounter. France got off with Gosselin’s goal two minutes into the game, and Basquaise doubled it within a minute. D. Ardil pulled one back for Spain, making it 2-1 at the end of the first period.

In the second period, Chiky Ardil’s goal for Spain was the equaliser that took the match into the final period with a 2-2 scoreline.

Midway into the third period, Chiky Ardil’s second gave Spain a 3-2 lead and with just two minutes left to play. However, France’s Gosselin levelled the game 3-3, forcing the match to extra-time, which saw no winner in additional period. In the penalty shootout, Spain’s Chiky Ardil, Suli Batis, and Domingo all successfully converted their attempts to secure the crucial win and a point for their side.
