SC Braga defeat Sporting in Round 2 of Portuguese Elite Championship

Second wins for Os Guerreiros do Minho, Casa Benfica, Sótão and Buarcos saw a gap open in the standings


Round 2 of the 2022 Elite Beach Soccer Championship was held on Sunday 1 May at Praia de Buarcos, in Figueira da Foz, the hosts of the 2021 EBSL Superfinal.

All four teams who had claimed victory in the first matchday bagged three points once more in the second stage of games, meaning that the standings are currently split into four teams with six points and four with no points.

In the opening match, ACD Sótão defeated Leixões by six goals to four and later on, Casa Benfica de Loures overran São Domingos 5-1.

The clash everyone was waiting for then took place, as Sporting CP faced the reigning champions SC Braga. The battle between the two previous winners of the Portuguese league was a tight one, but Braga came out on top thanks to goals from Brazilians Filipe Silva and Thanger, as well as keeper Pedro Mano.

Varzim SC were defeated 6-4 by local Figueira da Foz club AD Buarcos in the final match of the day.

Next week, Matchday 3 will see either ACD Sótão or Casa Benfica de Loures lose their unbeaten record when they go head to head, while either São Domingos or Varzim SC will pick up their first points of the league when they meet in the final match on Sunday 8 May.
