Italy’s premier beach soccer competitions wound down at the weekend in Marche.
Sambenedettese and ASD Lady Terracina were both victorious in San Benedetto del Tronto on Sunday as the Aon Serie A drew to a close for another year.
The competition’s final stage took place over four days at the Beretta Beach Arena as Sambenedettese added the Scudetto to their Italian Cup and Super Cup successes while Lady Terracina were crowned champions for the third year running.
Having claimed the Super Cup on Thursday evening with a 6-5 win against Viareggio, Sambenedettese then got past Napoli to reach the semis before again edging Viareggio to claim a place in the final.
Catania – winners against Livorno and Pisa earlier in the weekend – would await them and it was the eventual runners-up who held a 5-2 advantage going into the final frame.
However, Sambenedettese produced an impressive fightback to draw level and force extra time where the tournament’s star man Eudin proved the match-winner with a just over a minute of the frame to play.
The title is the second in Sambenedettese’s history, following their title-winning campaign in 2014, and they become the first side since Terracina in 2011 to win all three Italian trophies in a single season.
In the women’s competition, things proved somewhat easier for Lady Terracina as they eased past Canalicchio CT 6-1.
Veronica Privitera grabbed a hat-trick in what proved a relatively routine win, as Terracina were named Italian champions for the third year in succession.
