A FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup… and much, much more!
By Joan Cusco, BSWW Executive Vice-President.
Two words outstand in the horizon when thinking about what this 2017 will bring: The Bahamas.
The eighth edition of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup will fly to the pristine sands of The Bahamas, in what stands as the first ever FIFA senior event in the Caribbean region.
The Bahamas Football Association have been working tirelessly and enthusiastically in an event that will mean a lot not only for the country, but also for the whole region as well as the CONCACAF confederation. We have no doubt that this FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2017 will again exceed everyone’s expectations, and the whole Beach Soccer family is so much looking forward to this unique occasion.
With eight teams already qualified, the first months in the year will feature three more continental qualifiers, which will determine the rest of the contenders for this global showdown.
But this 2017 will bring much more than a World Cup… to begin with, our European flagship event, the Euro Beach Soccer League will reach its 20th edition, which clearly showcases that the continental league is one of the most solid and admired competitions in the World.
And talking about solidity, 2017 will mean a new step forward in the confirmation of Women’s Beach Soccer. Two international events, plus many National championships showed in 2016 that the movement will not stop, and this coming season will see more teams, more players, and more competitions joining in.
This past 2016 has also seen new events taking place in new venues all over the world (Cape Verde, Ordos, Sanxenxo, Cascais…). And the good news is that all those new friends want to stay with us, and have already stated their intentions to host a top-flight international event again this year.
This coming year has all the ingredients to become an unforgettable season, in which the beach soccer family, working together, will keep growing, opening doors and reaching new heights.
We cannot thank you enough for being by our side, for helping us fly. Let’s keep breaking barriers!
