The Beach Soccer Overall Rankings presented by Power Horse are out, with some significant moves
Portugal were the big winners in the BSWW Overall World Ranking presented by Power Horse for March as they closed the gap to leaders Russia with victory at the Copa Pilsener.
The Seleçao das Quinas were named Movers of the Month after topping the standings by three points from hosts El Salvador, the world champions reducing the gap at the top to 173 points.
With the help of MVP and joint leading scorer Jordan Santos, the Portuguese won three from three in El Salvador to hit top gear ahead of this month’s Sal Beach Soccer Cup in Cape Verde, which also features the hosts, Spain and England.
Elsewhere, Brazil, Italy, Tahiti, Switzerland and Iran complete an unchanged top seven with the Spanish leapfrogging Mexico into eighth.
Argentina’s third-placed finish in El Salvador moved them up two to 11th – just 10 points off South American neighbours Paraguay in 10th.
Japan’s hopes of breaking the top 10 were put on hold, following a strong February, as back-to-back friendly defeats against Brazil in Rio de Janeiro saw the Nippon slip to 13th behind United Arab Emirates.
