The sixth leg in the premium Portuguese club competition finished with thrills and surprises
There are eight teams in the Elite Division of beach soccer in Portugal and the sides all competed over the weekend, Saturday, August 1st- Sunday, August 2nd, in eight cracking showdowns, four on each day. The clubs are all vying for the coveted championship, this was the sixth leg of the season, and the list of teams are as follows: Leixões SC, SC Braga, Vitória FC, Sporting CP, CD Nacional, GR Amigos Paz, CF Os Belenenses, and ACD Sótão.
Matches began on Saturday and the first game set the stage, in the most spectacular way, for the rest of the weekend. Leixões SC opened proceedings with an upset penalties win over favourties SC Braga by a score of 2-1. Vitória FC then took on the tough Sporting CP squad in the second match of the day, but they fell short, 3-0. The final match on Saturday was decided by only goal, with CD Nacional defeating GR Amigos Paz 3-2. CF Os Belenenses and ACD Sótão battled on the 26th of July in their sixth stage match, with Belenenses earning a 4-3 victory.
The final day of the stage had SC Braga bounce back, and in a big way, by defeating Vitória 10-3. Sporting continued their charge with a 5-4 win over CD Nacional. Amigos Paz lost another heartbreaker by one goal, this time to CF Os Beleneneses by a score of 4-3. The last match of the week had Leixões flex their offensive and defensive muscles, beating Sótão 5-1. The league quarter-finals are set for the 8th and 9th of August, while the semi-finals are scheduled for the following weekend.
