Grembach Lodz goes undefeated in Poland’s top Beach Soccer league to reclaim their 6th overall title
Grembach was desperate to win back the title that was taken from them in 2014 by KP Lodz. Grembach held the title for straight years before that. In order to do so, it had to go undefeated in 4 tense games throughout the 3-day tournament.First days of the tournament did not surprise many, and Grembach firmly proved they are among the top teams in Poland after wins over Zdrowie Garwolin 6-1, and Boca Gdansk 7-3.
The thrills came during the semifinals against the champion from 2014, KP Lodz. The two teams are from the same city in central Poland and they were desperate to show which is better, but Grembach learned its lesson from last year, when it was eliminated at the same stage of the tournament by exactly the same opponent. Both teams played highly defensive tactics knowing that losing even one goal could decide who would be promoted to the finals. And despite the relatively low score for a beach soccer game, 2-1, it was Grembach that was more dilligent in search for the win.
On the last day of the tournament, the fully packed stadium was witness to a great rivalry between Hemako Sztutowo and Grembach Lodz. It was this season, when the well known Polish sniper, Boguslaw Saganowski, after a decade of playing with Grembach, decided to change his team for Hemako. The first period of the game ended with a 1-0 lead for Hemako but it was Saganowski who made things even more interesting, after he was able to change the score to 2-0. Daniel Baran finally managed to score for Grembach with an enormous shot from the other side of the field, but just a few minutes later Saganowski scored his second goal of the match, giving the lead to Hemako at 3-1, just seconds before the end of the second period. The third period belonged to Grembach Lodz evidenced by two goals scored from Igor Rangel who managed to bring his team into a tie by the end of the game. Just when it seemed the game was headed to overttime, Marek Widzicki bested Hemako’s great goalkeeper Marcin Wolski, and secured the victory for Grembach Lodz, 4-3.
Grembach Lodz is now the 2015 Beach Soccer Champion of Poland. It is their sixth title in history, and fifth since 2010, in addittion, Jarek Jagielski has been leading Grembach to all six titles. The champion coach has been helping to grow Polish beach soccer for years and his efforts are more than showing results with his teams’ impeccable record. The winner of the national leagues are all automatically qualified for the elite Euro Winner Cup 2016, a collection of the best clubs in Europe from their respecttive national leagues. In this year’s championship Hemako Sztutowo came second, and the third team was Boca Gdansk, who surprisingly defeated the former Champion of Poland, KP Lodz.
