Portugal beat Estonia twice in pre-season friendlies

The Division A newcomers travelled to Portugal to prepare for their debut season in the elite league

The defending European champions took two victories against their visiting Estonian opponents ahead of the beginning of the 2022 beach soccer season.

The matches were played on 15 and 16 March in Sesimbra. Day 1 saw the hosts sweep aside Estonia by 10 goals to zero, as Léo Martins bagged a hat-trick and twin brother Bê hit two.

The second match took place on Wednesday and Estonia managed to break through the Portuguese defensive line twice, but lost the game 6-2.

It was essential experience for the newly-promoted Division A side, and also for local youngster Duarte Algarvio, who made his national team debut in the friendlies. The 21-year-old winger said that it was, “a moment I’ve always waited for and which I’ve always worked towards.”

Portugal coach Mario Narciso said that he was positive following the matches: “We got what we wanted, which was to cement some new ideas that we are working on and to see new players who can be integrated into our team.”
