Portugal and Spain hit first in the Mundialito

The hosts and the Spaniards secure convincing wins over Japan and Italyto earn first points in Vilanova de Gaia

Brilliant Llorenç get Spain flying high in the Mundialito

A stout performance lead by prolific Llorenç Gomez merited the Spanish National side the victory in the first match of this Mundialito Futebol de Praia taking place in Vilanova de Gaia (Portugal). Once they got ahead in the score midway half first period, La Roja would never let the Azzurri back on the contest, securing a prestige-building victory that let them see the rest of the competition with confident eyes.

Not many things happened during the first period of the game, in which goalkeepers were not the busiest men on the pitch… by far. Second leg began in a similar fashion, and it was not until the 5th minute that the score got opened. The sharpest weapon of the Spanish side, Llorenç, swept his side ahead with the first of his three goals today.

The 1-0 remained quite long, too, as the next time the ball hit the back of the net was one period later. Again, the hit fell on the Spaniard?s side, with Cintas swiftly heading in for the 2-0. And, at that moment, things got quite busier in Vilanova de Gaia.

Spada tried to get Italy back on the fight with a terrific missile Dona could do nothing against, getting the Azzurri closer to the equalizer. But that moment would never come, as three new hits in the remaining five minutes sealed the win for Alonso?s formation.

Goals: 1-0: Llorenç, min. 5 (2); 2-0: Cintas min. 7 (3) ; 2-1 : Spada, min. 6 (3) ; 3-1 : Llorenç, min. 4 (3) ; 4-1: Pajón, min. 2 (3) ; 5-1: Llorenç, min. 2 (3)

A set of amazing goals pushes Portugal on top

Portugal gave Vilanova de Gaia a truly intense first taste of what Beach Soccer is about, in this opening matchday of the Mundialito Futbebol Praia. The hosts ran past Japan, and they did it in a quite remarkable fashion, blasting some stunning goals in, and conquer the eventual highest place of the table here in the Praia de Canite.

Belchior?s performance was one of the keys to this excellent first step into the tournament for Mario Narciso?s men. The team captain netted the first two goals for his side, thus sweeping Portugal 2-0 ahead. Jordan and Jose Maria widened the gap, making things terribly difficult for the Nippon.

Ruy Ramos? team could only shyly counteract the Lusitanian dominion through Take. But the captain?s hit in the beginning of the third period would become the only achievement the Asian runner-ups would seize. Two more astonishing hits by Belchior, who thundered an overhead kick home for the 1-5, and Alan, who looped the ball above Terukina from the halfway line to close the score, dropped the curtains of the game.

Goals: 0-1: Belchior, min. 8 (1); 0-2: Belchior, min. 9 (2); 0-3: Jordan, min. 1 (2); 1-4: Take, min. 10 (3); 0-4: Jose María, min. 1 (2); 1-5: Belchior, min. 9 (3); 1-6: Alan, min. 8 (3);
